James K. Polk 11th Preident
James K. Polk was born on November 2, 1795 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. Little was known about Polk until he ran for president. Although when elected he worked hard. During a border dispute a war began with the Mexicans. Polk sent Zachary Taylor as general. After the Americans won, Mexico acquired California and New Mexico. Territories. Also he settled the Oregon Territory from Great Britain. Throughout these 4 years since March 4, 1845 when he was elected as a democrat he fulfilled the United States destiny of stretching coast to coast. Polk decided not to run another campaign and retired from presidency. He lived with his wife Sarah Childress until he died on June 15, 1849 in Nashville, Tennessee.
