Milliard Fillmore 14th President
Millard Fillmore was born on January 7, 1800 in Cayuga County, New York. Fillmore was tutored by his future wife because of his poor education in his youth. Fillmore became Zachary Taylor's vice president. Then because of Taylor's early death Fillmore became President. Unlike Taylor, Fillmore would allow the Compromise of 1850. One part of that Compromise was the Fugitive Slave Act. This brought him out of office in 1852. Although his term was dominated by slave works, he did send Commodore Mathew Perry to Japan to possibly open trades. Japan Has not accepted trades with any country for over 200 years. However, with Japan fearing the United States Naval powers they accepted the trade. Fillmore died on March 8, 1874 in Buffalo, New York.
