William McKinley 25th President
William McKinley was born on January 29, 1843 in Niles, Ohio. In the Civil War McKinley served under Rutherford B. Hayes. In 1896, McKinley was elected himself. McKinley again favored hands off for economics. He persuaded Congress to declare war with Spain to help Cubans win independence. In this war America won Puerto Rico, Philippine Islands, and Guam. That year he also acquired Hawaii. During his terms the nation became a global power. in September of 1901 of his re-election McKinley was shot. He died about a week later. He died on September 14, 1901 in Buffalo, New York.
